El Paso County ambulatory Medicaid transportation service change

  • Effective August 25, 2026: MedRide will discontinue ambulatory Medicaid transportation services in El Paso County.
  • Medicaid wheelchair transportation in El Paso County will continue as scheduled.
  • Ambulatory Medicaid service continues in all other Colorado counties MedRide currently serves.
  • Our call center remains open for scheduling, questions, and trip changes.
  • This change follows ongoing statewide Medicaid reimbursement rate reductions and rising transportation costs.
  • This is not a decision MedRide has taken lightly.

For families in rural or remote areas of Colorado, daily transportation to and from school may be difficult due to distance, time constraints, or cost. Other families may face accessibility challenges, including the need for wheelchair-accessible vehicles or additional accommodations for students with special needs.

MedRide provides dependable, respectful, and safe transportation for students of all abilities. Our services include specialized transportation required by an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or medically necessary transportation as determined by the school district or referring agency, ensuring safe, accessible travel for students with diverse needs.

Our operations team is available to provide trip status updates upon request, offering support and peace of mind from pickup through drop-off. All education transport drivers undergo extensive background checks, training, and interviews to ensure they are fully qualified to work with children and meet a wide range of student needs.
